Eric Garcetti, the US ambassador to India, had a meeting with Anand Mahindra, the chairman of Mahindra Group, in Mumbai. During their interaction, Garcetti had the opportunity to drive a Mahindra Electric SUV in South Mumbai, with Anand Mahindra joining him in the passenger seat.
Expressing his enthusiasm for electric vehicles, Ambassador Garcetti stated, “The future is electric. I was thrilled to ride across South Mumbai in this Mahindra EV, which includes parts manufactured in the United States.”
Garcetti expressed his gratitude to Anand Mahindra for sharing insights on how US-India business collaboration can facilitate the transition to cleaner mobility.
In response, Anand Mahindra, aged 68, expressed pleasure in meeting Garcetti and discovering that he had studied Hindi and Indian culture during his undergraduate years at Columbia University. He jokingly added, “The next time we meet, I will expect you to belt out some Hindi songs on the piano! (And keep driving our electric cars as well!)”
Eric Garcetti’s visit to Mumbai has been filled with significant engagements. Besides meeting superstar Shah Rukh Khan at his residence and holding discussions with Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, to explore further economic cooperation between the US and India, he also engaged in talks with Uday Kotak and played cricket with Mithali Raj.
Additionally, Garcetti took some time to enjoy the sunrise at the Gateway of India and savor the experience of dining at the iconic Irani café, Kyani & Co.
