Volvo's electric performance sub-brand, Polestar, has unveiled its latest electric car, the Polestar 4. It's an electric performance SUV coupé that is sportier than the Polestar 3, but still spacious enough to be considered an SUV. The Polestar 4 stays true to the brand's performance roots with a maximum power output of 400kW and a 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds. It has regular and long-range versions, and both can be fitted with one or two motors. The car features infotainment powered by Google's Android Automotive OS and has a driver-assist system based on Nvidia's Drive platform. Polestar, Volvo’s electric performance sub-brand, is unveiling a new car that appears to tick many boxes. The Polestar 4 is an electric performance SUV coupé, meaning it’s a little sportier than its predecessor, the Polestar 3, but still has enough space and height to be considered an SUV.

The Polestar 4 stays true to the brand’s performance roots and boasts a maximum power output of 400kW (544hp) and can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds. Although the Tesla Model Y, a clear rival, has a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds, the difference is unlikely to be a deal-breaker for most buyers.

The Polestar 4 comes in regular and long-range versions, both of which can be fitted with one or two motors. The long-range variant will have a 102kWh battery, while the single-motor version will have a rear-wheel drive, a 200kW (272 hp) power output, and an estimated WLTP range of 600km. The dual-motor version will have a slightly shorter range of 560km. The car will be capable of fast charging, with up to 200kW DC and 22kW AC charging available on all versions.

The Polestar 4 features infotainment powered by Google’s Android Automotive OS, which enables over-the-air updates. The car has a 15.4-inch display in the center of the dashboard, a 10.2-inch driver display, a 14.7-inch head-up display, and an optional 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The center display is landscape-oriented, unlike the portrait-oriented display in the Polestar 3.

The Polestar 4 is roomy, with dimensions of 4,839mm in length, 2,139mm in width, and 1,544mm in height. Although it’s slightly smaller than the Polestar 3, it has a “generous” interior, made even more comfortable for passengers by reclining rear seats. The Polestar 4 has a driver-assist system based on Nvidia’s Drive platform and powered by twelve cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and one radar on all versions of the car.

The Polestar 4 will launch in China first, with production commencing in November 2023, before arriving in Europe, North America, and the Asia Pacific region in early 2024. Although pricing is yet to be confirmed, the car will retail at approximately $60,000 in the U.S. and €60,000 in Europe.
