The European has approved the law to ban the sale of new gas and diesel cars in the EU, starting in 2035. The law was first accepted by negotiators from EU countries, the European and the European Commission in October last year. It contains an ambitious revision of the targets for 2030 and a zero-emission target for 2035, which is crucial to reach climate neutrality by 2050.

Starting in the end of 2025, the Commission will publish a report every two years to assess progress towards zero-emission road mobility.

In October of last year, negotiators from EU countries, the European Parliament, and the European Commission first accepted the bill.

Several automakers, like Volkswagen, have already stated that they will only produce EVs in Europe by 2033.
