BP Pulse An Order With US-based Tritium For EV Charging Stations

To increase the size of its BP Pulse fleet and public charging network, BP has placed an order for Tritium electric vehicle charging stations. The deal was announced as more fossil fuel-based businesses gradually changed their business strategies to promote green mobility.

BP Pulse, the EV branch of oil and gas conglomerate BP, placed a new order for DC fast chargers from electric vehicle power supply maker Tritium. BP Pulse currently operates about 60 charging locations in the UK based on its online map and is working to expand in Australia, Europe, and the United States.

Electric vehicle power supply manufacturer Tritium just received a fresh order for DC fast chargers from BP Pulse, the EV division of oil and gas behemoth BP. The firms have not disclosed the number of chargers in the new order, but Tritium describes it as its “biggest ever order from a single customer.” The purchase means that as EV adoption rises and government-mandated dates to phase out combustion cars approach, more chargers will soon be readily available.

According to BP Pulse CEO Richard Bartlett, “We’re looking forward to putting these chargers to work across three continents.” According to its online map, BP Pulse presently manages roughly 60 charging stations in the UK and is looking to grow in Australia, Europe, and the US.

To expand the fleet and publicly accessible fast charging stations in BP Pulse, BP and Tritium signed a multi-year contract in April last year. Tritium and DC-America joined recently in October to aid in developing a comprehensive fast-charging network in the US. Additionally, the American-based business supplies chargers to other clients, including Osprey in the UK.

Most of Tritium’s 50 and 150-kWh DC chargers are made in Lebanon, Tennessee, at the company’s newly constructed plant. Additionally, it has a facility in Brisbane, Australia, where it intends to produce chargers for BP Pulse deployments that reach that country. According to the business, its US operation can produce 30,000 units annually “at full maturity,” compared to 5,000 units at its Australian facility. However, when the plant’s production capabilities would be reached was not specified by Tritium.

By purchasing California-based Amply power in 2021 and rebranding it as BP Pulse, BP gained a foothold in the EV charging industry. In addition, the new BP Pulse cooperated with Hertz to expand its network of EV charging stations because of the previous company’s fleet and charging management technology.

Deals made by BP with Hertz and Tritium show how fossil fuel firms are becoming more eager to help expand electric vehicles. In addition, a large oil firm Shell acquired the Volta EV charging network. Even if certain states might prevent it, both of these transactions may signal that electric car sales are on the rise for 2023.
