The BMW XM is now all set to make its Indian premiere tomorrow, i.e. On December 10, 2022, the two-day BMW Joytown music and driving festival will take hosted at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.
The XM is also the first BMW M automobile constructed from the ground up since the 1970s’ BMW M1. The XM’s powertrain is a plug-in hybrid system that combines a V8 petrol engine with an electric motor. The engine in question is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with 489 horsepower, while the electric motor adds another 197 hp. The system’s overall power output is rated at 653 horsepower.
The M Hybrid powertrain also produces an incredible 800 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds with the aid of the available 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox. BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system with a rear-biased layout sends power to all four wheels.
The XM may operate in three modes: hybrid, electric, and eControl. The fully-electric mode allows for top speeds of 140 kmph and a total range of 82-88 km according to the WLTP cycle. In the car’s underbody is a 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack capable of AC charging at up to 7.4 kW.
The XM comes outfitted with BMW IconicSounds Electric, which was created in conjunction with film composer Hans Zimmer. When driving in pure EV mode, the system provides an appropriate background track for the electric motor’s power supply. Furthermore, BMW claims that when in hybrid mode, a boost sound would emphasise the electrical assistance offered to the combustion engine.
With a split-headlamp layout, the BMW XM’s unconventional look is in accordance with the Bavarian luxury carmaker’s newest design language. However, unlike the new 7 Series and X7, the classic BMW kidney grille is divided into two halves. Furthermore, a gold accent surrounds the front grille and window frame. The SUV has stylish wraparound LED tail lights and hexagonal twin tailpipes placed one over the other at the back.
The BMW XM is equipped with the newest BMW Live Cockpit Professional and BMW Operating System 8, as well as a curved display that houses both the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, a heads-up display, and gesture control are also included.
This particular vehicle will have over 735 horses and 735 lb-ft of torque, as well as unique paint, wheel, upholstery, and trim options, with an MSRP beginning at more than $185,000. The BMW XM Label Red will go into production in the late summer of 2023.
