MG Motor will have an assorted set of cars on display at Auto Expo 2023. The facelifted Hector and the two-door Air City EV will also be on display. MG India is currently evaluating a market launch for the MG4 EV. The company is bringing the electric hatchback to India to gauge customer interest.
Many automakers have opted out of the forthcoming Auto Expo 2023, but MG Motor will have a diverse range of vehicles on show. We already revealed that the MG Air City EV would make its India premiere at Auto Expo, as will the Hector makeover. We can officially confirm that MG’s next midsize electric hatchback, the MG 4 EV, will be on display at Auto Expo 2023.
The MG 4 EV has a range of up to 450 kilometres. It’s almost as big as a ZS EV SUV.
With OTA updates, it gains ADAS technology and linked functions. The MG 4 was unveiled in July of this year as a born electric car built on parent firm SAIC’s modular scalable platform, with the battery pack becoming an intrinsic component of the platform construction.
MG 4 Electric Hatchback
The MG 4 had a length of 4,287mm, a width of 1,836mm, a height of 1,506mm, and a wheelbase of 2,705mm. It is nearly as huge as the ZS EV SUV, since its length is only 36mm shorter and its wheelbase is 120mm larger. In foreign countries, the MG 4 competes with other electric hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and Kia Niro EV.
In terms of style, the MG 4 is a sleek hatchback that mixes crossover design characteristics. It has clean lines, sheer surfaces, and accents that appear to be influenced by the Cyberster roadster concept. A sweeping nose, a well-sculpted bonnet, and sharp headlights with eyebrow-like-LED Daytime Running Lamps distinguish the face. Multiple angular insets, a central air inlet, and extra LED lighting components on the exterior borders adorn the complex-looking front bumper.
The MG 4 has two distinct character lines in profile. The expanded sill includes the lowest area of the doors. The MG 4 receives a massive two-part roof-extension-cum-spoiler over an angled tailgate, as well as a complicated full-width tail-light assembly with LED graphics. The blacked-out rear bumper, on the other hand, has a simple design.
MG 4 EV: Powertrain And Battery
The MG 4 EV is offered in two battery pack sizes worldwide: 51kWh and 64kWh; the former generates 170hp, while the latter produces 203hp. Both variants have a torque output of 250Nm and a single-motor, rear-wheel drive layout.
In terms of charging, the batteries can be charged from 10% to 100% in 7.5 hours for the 51kWh and 64kWh battery packs, respectively, utilising a 7kW AC fast charger. The same batteries, however, may be charged from 10% to 80% in 35 and 39 minutes, respectively, using a 150kW DC charger. According to MG, the smaller battery pack has a range of up to 350km, while the bigger one has a range of 452km.
MG 4 EV: Interior And Features
The inside of the MG 4 EV, in contrast to the outside, is quite simple. The interior has sleek, horizontal lines, with two floating panels – a centrally located 10.25-inch touchscreen entertainment system and a 7-inch digital driver’s display. While the air conditioning vents are carefully hidden in the dashboard, the centre console stands out with a rotary clock and a wireless charging pad. There are also several storage areas surrounding the centre console.
The MG4 comes well-equipped in terms of amenities, including linked car technology with over-the-air updates, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and an ADAS suite that includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot recognition, and rear cross traffic warning, among others.
The MG 4 EV is currently being considered for a commercial introduction by MG India. The model will arrive in India via CBU or CKD. The electric hatchback will be on display at the Auto Expo to evaluate customer interest. Following the release of the Air City EV, MG may offer it to the market. If it is released, it will face competition from the BYD Atto 3 and the upcoming Hyundai Kona Electric facelift.
The all-new MG4 EV is a high-tech, modern, and economical electric vehicle. The MG4 is set to make its imprint on the electric vehicle age, with outstanding driving characteristics and smart technology.
Electric Range – 281 miles* on the MG4 Long Range and 218 miles* on the MG4 Standard. Charge Time: 35 minutes from 10% to 80%.
